Zsa Zsa came to us unexpectedly.
A phone call informed us that a herd dispersal was in progress, horses were headed for auction due to unfortunate circumstances.
A quick trip in the pouring rain and we bought Zsa Zsa in order to rescue her. Our purchase of her was from an agent who didn’t even know her name. Her papers were there and she had a pretty head, and nice straight legs. Other than that we knew only that she was 11 years old, had had at least 3 foals, two of which were very successful sport horse Pintos in the east.
She was extremely thin, and in dire need of being removed from the filthy deep, dank and dark stall.
Zsa Zsa was intended to be trained and sold, but she quickly melted our hearts and impressed us with her movement. A few chiropractic visits from Richard Elliott and her conditioning and training began.
It quickly became obvious that Zsa Zsa had little training and what she had learned was mostly due to fear.
It would take only a few minutes of pats and soft talking to get her accepting of everything, and she tried so hard.
In 3 weeks, Laura had her walking and trotting undersaddle, just easy stuff to prepare her for more advanced work.
At that time, her training was turned over to Lori, and in another 3 weeks, Zsa Zsa was sidepassing, halting on her hindquarters, standing up for halter, walking and trotting in hunter frame, and longing in a nice hunter canter. She advanced so quickly that we needed to give her time off so that WE could catch our breath!
Zsa Zsa is a wonderful horse with qualities we would look for in a brood mare, or a top show mount. Her huge eyes and large Jibah are classic, large well shaped hooves under her correct legs and a nice amount of substance to her body makes her a perfect horse for our breeding program.
Oh, and did we mention she is black? How lucky we are, and how lucky someone will be, to acquire a foal from her and Aziz Zamirr!
