Another very special horse that was sold was Latiif Alih. "Tiff" came from Texas to be conditioned, trained and sold. There had been a horrible drought and his owner felt that Arabians were unappreciated in TX at that time, so thus he came to us in Ohio.
He arrived thin and tired, but curious. It didn't take long to know that 5 year old "Tiff" was of unusual intelligence. He was only halter broke, and terribly head shy, but after two weeks of food and careful conditioning, he was started under saddle and attended his first show with only 30 days training!
He was solid, athletic and calm. All he needed was time. Along came Karen Christian! She fell in love with Tiff before he was even started under saddle. She knew there was something special about the deep red chestnut gelding, as he peered out at her under his long forelock with those big dark eyes. Who chose whom, we aren't sure, but it was a good match!
Tiff stayed here all summer in training. Karen joined in often with visits and riding. It soon became apparent that Tiff's magnetism was not lost on Karen's daughter, Monica. She soon started riding him here and then Tiff went home with the Christians late that summer.
Tiff came back the next spring for more training, and again his intelligence amazed me. Playful and silly with Karen, he was all work when I stood at the gate and watched. As soon as I moved away, he became willful again! I came into view, he was perfect! He played with his toys to make them into tools, manipulating them to make certain sounds or movements. He caught onto things so quickly that you didn't dare let him make a mistake OR it became an option for him to put into his repertoire of tricks!
I am VERY proud of Monica for giving Tiff that polish to compete at Arabian Nationals AND Arabian Sport horse Nationals, both of which require qualifications.
Karen wrote and said: I am so proud of Monica and Tiff for attending TWO Nationals and I have always loved Tiff, even when he was a stinker! Thank you! |
